Calhoun, the seat of Gordon County, is situated in the rolling Ridge and Valley geologic region of northwest Georgia. The long valley formed a natural migration pattern that influenced the area's settlement and is a strong economic factor today. William T. Sherman almost destroyed the village as he led his troops to the Battle of Atlanta.
