A special revised edition of the well reviewed "15 Women Philosophers you should have learned about in school but probably didn't." The book was originally published by the former educational site, Decoded Science, in 2014, at which time there wasn't much available online about women in philosophy. This book was based on articles that had already appeared (prior to 2014) onsite. The writer's remit was to study academic books and articles, and then produce accessible content for busy, working people with little time to read.Here's what first inspired me: Ten years ago I joined a Philosophy course. The teacher was good but skimmed through the history of philosophy entirely from a male perspective. This was interesting, but when he asked us what we'd like to do next term, I said could we look at some women philosophers? He shrugged and said, "It's not very interesting. It's just about feminism." I was mad with him, but this further sparked an interest that had always been there. Now I wanted to do something about it. I began to run a course myself, strictly non-sexist. We looked at both male and female philosophers. Then I began to write content for the educational website mentioned above, who produced the original (2014) book. For the second edition, that is, the one I am hoping you will want to read, I revised a little, and also added three more amazing women. It's time women philosophers had a platform and true acknowledgment for their great courage and unique insight in spite of - or maybe because of - the obstacles and upsets they encountered on their journey. This is now beginning to happen as other writers and academics join the "campaign" (and good for them) but it is far from finished - we still have a long way to go.
