For her courage and commitment, she was called "Angel of the Yukon" and honored by the city. Today, the Iditarod race honors dog sledding in the north of the continent. The race is held in February from Anchorage to Nome. Movies and books honor the dogs, Balto and Togo. This book honors the nurse.
