Author Biography

Robin Brown is Alex's Mummy. When Alex was very little, his Mummy put coloured dots on her piano, and wrote out some of his favourite songs in coloured notes. Alex was able to play these songs by following the colours. Soon he was playing dozens of songs, and asking for more! This gave him a great start for when he began formal lessons, and he was performing at school events from the age of 5. A busy doctor in the British NHS, Robin was one day struck down by illness. Weak and confined to her home, Robin began to organise and add to her coloured music, until eventually they filled eight children's music books. Robin's credentials includes her basic medical degree MBChB, Membership of the Royal College of Physicians (MRCP), Postgraduate Certificate in Work Based Medical Education (PGCert in WBME), and Fellowship of the Higher Education Authority (FHEA). Musically, she is trained to ABRSM Grade 7 on the piano. A teacher at heart, Robin has been extensively involved in teaching medical students and young doctors. She was previously a Teaching Fellow, and is presently an Honorary Lecturer, at the Manchester Medical School, one of the largest in the country. She is the named author of its Year 3 Liver, Biliary and Pancreatic Diseases online module. Robin's passion as a teacher now leads her to put into writing her approach in teaching her son Alex to play the piano, for the benefit of other children and adults. Her books are easy and fun, written for lay parents, a great way to start!
