by Gregory G. Newson (Author)

The confederate army of the American civil war was not all white!

"Heroes by force" is a 225-page illustrations search directory of black confederate books listing 5,000 by slave names and state divisions, or militia and volunteers. This book is compiled with national archives, state archives, Confederate pension records, service records, Confederate land grants, slave narratives, books, old newspaper listings, muster rolls, and prisoner of war documents are all used to compile this collection of records. Because of the policy of the winners of the war, was to burn down courthouses in the Southland of America, this is only a small collection of approximately 20,000 African American support soldiers.

The interior book design is highlighted by description columns.

Column One- Person's full name along with other names used.

Column Two- The Company the person served in.

Column Three- The Unit or ship the person served in.

Column Four- The Rank achieved by the person in the unit of record or job title.

Column Five- Whether the person was a Slave or a Free Man of Color (FMC) and other miscellaneous information found.

Many are drafted or ordered by their slave masters and forcibly delivered to Confederate army campsites. And at the end of the war black confederates received pensions and which are listed.

Why would African Americans fight for the South? For many, it was about man's quest for respect. Enslaved African Americans men would rather face a bullet than a lash.

If history is written by the victors, then post-Civil War America is a rare exception to the rule. Specifically, American media and publishing companies. Many of which leaned right-wing, neutral, and left-wing politically, release different versions of our history books to comply with the various priorities and educational standards of multiple states.
