JEN OAKES has been writing since her mom gave her a pen and a journal when she was a little girl and made her sit in her room for an hour of "quiet time" every day. And now that she's a mom, she realizes that her mom was a genius--not just for the whole "send your kid to their room for a quiet time" thing, but also because it developed in Jen a deep love for writing.
