by Alexander Batthyany (Author), Elisabeth S. Lukas (With)

For logotherapy, suffering is a constitutive element of existence that must be placed in an appropriate place in our lives and given meaning. Viktor Frankl developed this current of philosophical and therapeutic thought in the second half of the last century, after the painful experience of his time in Auschwitz and the loss of his family. In his opinion, the lack of a horizon of meaning is the cause of a large part of the emotional, affective and psychological disorders that the individual suffers, as well as the reason that we inflict harm on others. In this work, through a deep and enriching dialogue, the top experts in Frankl's work, Elisabeth Lukas and Alexander Batthyány, reflect on key concepts of logotherapy, speak openly about splits and critical positions within it, address the positioning of Frankl against religion and deal with current phenomena such as pathologies caused by the use of electronic devices, global migration, new radicalisms, as well as the growing lack of meaning in life in Western societies. In this way, Lukas and Batthyány formulate an updated logotherapy, capable of providing answers, even today, to the existential concerns of our lives.
