To many, poetry is, first and foremost, an expression of that which you cannot say aloud. Perhaps a poem reveals the pain you feel during a particularly difficult time. Maybe it's a passing fancy, a whimsical thought you had while walking through a park. It could be an image that's been stuck in your head for weeks on end, refusing to go away.
