Giovanni Rapino, a killer for a New York crime family, cuts a deal with the government when he learns there is a contract out on him. Two days later, a government agent shows up with yet another deal. This time the government wants to recruit Rapino for his skills as a killer to deal with a Mexican cartel distributing drugs into Bozeman, Montana.

First, however, Rapino needs a name change. Ruggiero Amato fits the bill. The government provides a backstory to his new identity so he can blend into the Midwestern drug dealing business. It is there where he will seek out one of the cartel's major players and kill him. But first Amato meets Brenda Lee at a Yankton diner/truck stop and falls in love. She joins up with him and together they head off to Bozeman-and that's when the shooting starts.
