From 1985 to 2000 he reviewed live music for the \u003ci\u003eSunday Times\u003c\/i\u003e, \u003ci\u003eObserver \u003c\/i\u003eand \u003ci\u003eScotsman \u003c\/i\u003eand from 1992 to 2016 chaired the judges of the Mercury Music Prize. \u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cb\u003eMatt Brennan \u003c\/b\u003eis Reader in Popular Music at the University of Glasgow. He has served as Chair of the International Association for the Study of Popular Music (UK and Ireland branch) and is the author of two monographs, \u003ci\u003eWhen Genres Collide \u003c\/i\u003e(2017) \u003ci\u003eand Kick It: A Social History of the Drum Kit \u003c\/i\u003e(2020). \u003cp\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cb\u003eMartin Cloonan \u003c\/b\u003eis the Director of the Turku Institute for Advanced Studies in Finland and coordinating editor of the journal \u003ci\u003ePopular Music\u003c\/i\u003e. He chaired Freemuse for its first 20 years and, with John Williamson, co- wrote a history of the UK's Musicians' Union, \u003ci\u003ePlayers' Work Time \u003c\/i\u003e(2016). \u003cp\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cb\u003eEmma Webster \u003c\/b\u003ecompleted her PhD, \u003ci\u003ePromoting Live Music: A Behind- the- Scenes Ethnography\u003c\/i\u003e, at the University of Glasgow in 2011. She has held a fellowship at Oxford Brookes University and AHRC- funded post- doctoral positions at the Universities of Edinburgh and East Anglia, working on the UK Live Music Census and Impact of Festivals projects.
