This is the diary of a young officer in the Royal Engineers serving with the British Army. He was present in the Iberian Peninsula from 1808 to his death in 1812. His diary covers the period from 1808 to 1810, where he served in the Corunna and Talavera campaigns before being ordered to work on building the Lines of Torres Vedras. The books outlines his early life and continues up to his death.

Author Biography

I have been interested in the Peninsular War for nearly forty years specialising in the campaigns involving the British Army. During my research I have reprinted several rare works including the trilogy starting with 'Strictures on Napier's History of the Peninsular War and the correspondance between C E Long and Beresford. My first book, 'The Fatal Hill' was centred around the battle of Albuera. I have also edited a book on the British Napoleonic General George Madden.
