by Simon W. Petree (Author)

Thin kerf sawmilling has become one of the world's most productive creators of environmentally significant small business entrepreneurial enterprises in recent decades; allowing tens of thousands of one and two person businesses to be established and thrive as locally based enterprises serving local, regional, and even sometimes, national marketplaces with wood products generally either unavailable or unaffordable in traditional marketplaces. Using short, 1 minute reads called SHARP TIPS supported by more extensive discussion, "What I Wish I'd Known" allows the owners of thin kerf sawmills to benefit from Simon Petree's nearly two decades of experience starting with a business using an old mill rescued from a blackberry patch and growing it into a respected business covered by national woodworking and agricultural publications. The EXPERIENCED BASED APPROACHES TO THIN KERF SAWMILLING provided within the pages of What I Wish I'd Known provide advice on; * Getting Started;* Marketing* Niche Markets* Productivity* Profitability* Secondary Processing* Sawmill Operation* Identifying New Markets* Controlling Costs* Press Relations* And many more aspects of the portable, thin kerf sawmill business. Readers are also provided with templates for press releases, story ideas for distribution to the press and others, and a checklist to provide customers regarding the environmental benefits of the wood products they are purchasing. What I Wish I'd Known is an easy to read book packed with ideas sure to enhance the profitability and productivity of any thin kerf sawmill operation; newly established or long in business.

Author Biography

Simon Petree purchased his first home and started his first business within months of graduation from high school. In the intervening years he's worked at nearly every aspect of the wood products business with a focus on the environmental benefits of recovering tree stems destined to be burned, ground up, or simply left to rot and turning those trees into incredibly beautiful lumbers, furniture, and works of art. Simon has been featured in several dozen articles carried in national magazines dealing with woodworking, parks and recreation, landscaping, environment, and business. "What I Wish I'd known is a distillation of the experience gained over nearly two decades of work as an "entrepreneurial environmentalist."
