Volume 1 covers 180 wildflowers first blooming in March, April, and May; volume 2 covers almost 200 flowers first blooming in June through October. Flowers in both volumes are organized by the month they first bloom in Iowa. Each flower has a full-page photograph along with inset photographs where they will further aid identification, a description of its blooms and leaves, and additional information on its blooming months, height, common and scientific names, the habitat where it is typically found, and similar species.
