Judy Wilford has 30 years of experimentation, refinement, and tutoring under her belt, and her process combines and adapts different genres, textiles, traditional stitches, and embroidery styles. Part 1 covers the materials and equipment, lays out a simple landscape, and demonstrates background layering and surface stitching. The second section contains a range of projects, each developing and extending the various techniques.

Author Biography

Sadly, Judy Wilford passed away in 2022. Throughout her lifetime, she enjoyed working with the mediums of fabric and thread. For over 35 years she developed hand stitching techniques that combined the traditional and the contemporary; drawing on careful research, design practice, and personal sketching, painting and object-making. She exhibited regularly in the Australian Craft Show, The Bungendore Woodworks Gallery and Regional Galleries of NSW and QLD, and held several joint exhibitions. Judy also had work selected for TAFTA and Oz Quilt in the 'Australia Wide' travelling exhibitions, along with inclusion in several publications. Judy's works are held in Diplomatic, Corporate and private collections around Australia and internationally. In 1999 she was awarded a Churchill Fellowship, to study and compare Ancient and Contemporary Narrative Embroideries in the United Kingdom. Judy received several awards from the National Australian Society of Miniature Arts. Judy was a renowned tutor in her subject areas of Landscape and Birds in Habitats, travelling throughout Australia and New Zealand, and also lectured at The McGregor Summer Schools, at the University of Southern Queensland.
