It is filled with memories of abuse, abandonment, and the quiet cries that no one would listen to until now. Seemingly simple days, filled with dark feelings, are expressed with ease; and as each author takes a breath and steps back to look at their strengths that grew out of feeling alone, we can see that they have risen out of their challenges with reflective pride and humility. Their courage to write about their emotional, material, sexual, and medical abuse will give others the permission to be open about their hardships, hopefully, and to talk about it, write about it, and most of all to be honest with themselves that what happened was real, and there is help available.
