This book gives an overview of the struggles of the Muslims in Belize and the Caribbean Diaspora to establish Islam. It further details the experiences of some of the pioneers most of whom are still alive and residing in Belize and how the community has evolved from the Nation of Islam to Sunni Islam. It highlights our struggles in contributing to the education of future generations of Belizean youth, the less fortunate and disenfranchised of the Southside community of Port Loyola. This book is the first in depth look at the Belize Muslim community since Abdullah Hakeem Quick's "Deeper Roots" some decades ago. It highlights the accomplishment of the BREDDA organization in the tri-state region of New York, Los Angeles and Michigan.

Author Biography

Mr. Abdulmajeed Nunez is a student of History and a lover of Oral History. Over the years he has done numerous presentations at schools on the subject of Islam and has been interviewed numerous times on the subject by students of UB, Pallottie, Anglican Cathedral College, and St. John's College among others. Hence the birth of this book is to serve as a resource for the students of Belize and the Caribbean Diaspora. He has served his country in both capacities of internal and external security and has been a member of the Islamic Mission Belize for the past eighteen years. As a trained social worker and a past student of the Guyana Islamic Institute and the former acting principal of the Muslim Community Primary School, he is honored to add this book to the literary resource for student of History
