The illustrations appear to be pen and ink with color that compliment and help to illustrate each rhyming verse. I'm not convinced that the book would be helpful for someone who is not familiar with the game. It doesn't really encourage the reader to play, it just explains how to act if you do play. From a poetry view, it is multiple rhyming verses that do convey the information necessary for the topic. The author obviously seeks to share his love for the game. He dedicated the book to his two grandchildren.
