Despite the fact that the Black community and its organizations were not always united around strategy and tactics and drew members from different classes and backgrounds, the movement nevertheless cohered around the aim of eliminating the system of Jim Crow segregation and the reform of some of the worst aspects of racism in American institutions and life. Hakim Anderson states: "Black Americans do not have a clear and thorough understanding of their best interest and need to review their journey from the slave plantation and their progression in American society." As a result, Hakim Anderson became an activst and stategist as a more active participant in the fiber of change in America. He examines the stresses engendered by slavery, colonializm and discrimination that feed and the anger of Black life today. The "Making of the Negro" might be disturbing to some but, as the old adage says, the truth may hurt for a little while but a lie hurts forever. "Truth crushed to earth will rise again". What Hakim has presented in this work provides an opportunity for those who are not familiar with "The Struggle" from days gone by to better connect the dots that reflect the landscape that Black Americans as a community find us still struggling with today.
